Mom and I love to sit in Pleasantview's beautiful Alzheimer's courtyard. Shucking corn seems to help her remember all the wonderful times we've had together.

Music and Memory Grant

The Ohio Department of Aging and the Office of the State Long-term Care Ombudsman,
has awarded Pleasantview Care center a Music and Memory Grant.
Imagine being trapped inside your own body with your connections to memories and people you hold dear muddled, confused or inaccessible. For many Ohioans with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, this is their world.

Now, imagine that something as simple as a beloved song could change that - even if just for a moment.

Hearing a popular song from our teen years, a chant from a religious service or a familiar tune can be profoundly linked to personal memories. In fact, our brains are hard-wired to connect with long term memory - and this is no different for persons with severe dementia.
Reaching a resident with advanced dementia can often be difficult. With Music and Memory, our staff creates and provides personalized playlists on digital music players for residents, allowing them to reconnect with the world through memories triggered by the music they love.

Grandma always perks up when I add a song that she remembers from when I was growing up. It makes me happy that I can still connect with her in some small way.
If you would like to support the Music and Memory Program at Pleasantview Care Center, please contact:
Kris Leonard, Director of Activities and Volunteers at 440-887-4236.
We can use donated iPods, iTunes gift cards and volunteers to make the program an ongoing success. Kris would be super happy to provide more details about the program.

Over the past several months our music therapist, Lindsey Perl, MT-BC and activities staff member Kelly Pitman, ADC have participated in Music and Memory training sessions sponsored by the Ohio Department of Aging. They have both received certification of their training.

We have already received grant provided equipment for the program, including headsets and iPods to launch this program for our residents with dementia - but we can always use more equipment and volunteers.

What is hospice?

Hospice is a service that provides specific end of life care that focuses on pain and symptom management, emotional support, spiritual support and support for families and loved ones.

Hospice can be provided wherever the patient is most comfortable - usually at home, in a hospital, a nursing home or assisted living.

Pleasantview Care Center and Legacy Place Parma, both provide hospice services through several different hospice providers. While hospice does not pay nursing home or assisted living costs, there is no additional cost to use hospice services.
The staff at Pleasantview and Legacy work together with the hospice company and the family to coordinate the services the patient needs to live fully and comfortably to the end.
To learn more about hospice at Legacy or Pleasantview please call and ask to speak with the Hospice Coordinator. 440-845-0200

I really appreciate my hospice care givers - it seems they are always there when I need someone to talk to or ask for advice. It is also reassuring to know there is someone there to give my family the support and loving care they need.

Respiratory Therapy

Pleasantview Care Center strives to provide the highest level of respiratory care to patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. To do so, we maintain an experienced respiratory therapist on staff to oversee each patient's respiratory care.

Our respiratory therapist first consults with the patient's doctor to create a personal treatment plan. Once the plan is in place, the RRT, along with our trained nursing staff, administers, monitors and records the patient's progress and treatment.

When the patient is discharged into the community the RRT provides education and training to the patient and family in order to continue treatment.
